Amongst my cleaning I also came across this art class journal entry (about a trip to Spain) I wrote maybe when I was in grade 12. I thought it was amusing because I realize that this trip set a standard for me in terms of other places that I have been to and continue to explore. In a way I compare a lot to what i saw and felt in Spain... .. . It's no wonder why I've been back several times since.
My Utopia
One time in my life when everything was absolutely perfect was the two weeks that I spent in Spain. I was overwhelmed with happiness since before I arrived there and I was not let down.I wish I could have stayed there.
We got off the plane and I was just blown away at the beautiful weather. As we drove for about six hours to our first destination, I had never seen so much beautiful scenery in such a short amount of time. There were nice farms, hills, mountains, cliffs, red dirt, olive trees, houses... everything.
One thing on this trip that impressed me a lot were the trees. Every tree that I could imagine seemed to be there. The history of this place seemed unreal. Just walking down a regular side street amazed me. The tile work on the houses was so neat to me. I was amused by the beautiful cathedrals that would actually make me want to go to church.
This country is very artistic. It seems like they take great pride in their art because it is everywhere. Almost every building is art. Some city's (like Seville) are so packed with apartments and houses, it seems like everyone wants to live there. Nicer cars than North America. Cute Dogs. One large rock (Gibraltar) with a crazy cave inside. Monkeys. A beach in nice place is a thousand times better than a beach in an ugly place (not mentioning any names). Snow peaked mountains. Lizards. Cool nights, warm days. A bar on every corner. City life. The European gals. Good food. Cheap booze thats available anywhere.
Espana is the bomb! though I was there with a school trip I had such a sense of freedom and comfort in this culture. It was amazing. My eyes were shocked by its Beauty, color and art. I didn't take enough pictures. Anything I touched was warm, except for the ocean (it was March). The warmth of the sun (especially by the beach) made me want to walk around naked. The smell was mostly of good food, trees and fresh mountain air. The taste of the food was mostly pleasing. Lots of candy, ice cream, pastries and stuff, There were few tastes that I could have gone without. This country seemed to be pretty quiet with the potential to be loud at night. All I heard was Spanish speaking voices, scooters and motor bikes.
From what I've seen this is the perfect place... Then I came home to the snow in the city (not on mountain tops).
